Watersports
There are excellent opportunities for watersports lovers in the Dominican Republic, although some shores are rocky and rough, there are stunning stretches of beach suitable for swimming. Scuba diving and snorkeling fans will find warm waters, reef diving, good visibility, wrecks, caverns, and rich marine life in the waters of Dominican Republic.
Great dive sites include Cabrera, Sosúa, Las Terrenas, Punta Rucia, La Caleta National Underwater Park, Catalina, and Saona Islands. Boat trips to the marine caves of the Gri Gri Lagoon are famous tourist attraction. Charter boats are also organized by hotels for offshore fishing for sailfish, marlin, benittos, Dorado, and other game fish. River fishing with guides in flat-bottomed boast can also be arranged at Boca de Yuma, La Romana, and on the north coast. For windsurfing aficionados, Sosúa is particularly good and hosts the Professional Windsurfing Association World Cup.
Adventure Sports

This includes whitewater rafting, tubing, cascading, and canyoning. Whitewater rafting is on hand at Rio Yaque del Norte in Jarabacoa, the best places for tubing are on the Rio Jamao del Norte, Rio Yaque del Norte, and Rio Isabela in Santo Domingo.
Trekking and Hiking
Jarabacoa has the best places for trekking, the Nuevo valley, and the Constanza Valley. For hiking and climbing enthusiasts, joining the local’s yearly pilgrimage to the Caribbean’s highest mountain, the Pico Duarte, either on foot or riding a mule, is one of the unforgettable things to do in Dominican Republic. Comparable tours can also be made at Mount Isabel de Torres, El Mogote, Pico Yaque, and Sierra de Bahoruco.
Horseback Riding
The country offers some of the best horse riding in the Caribbean as Dominicans love horse riding. Visitors can join in the twice-weekly competitions of regular polo games held at Casa de Campo and Sierra Prieta.
Golf
There several golf clubs and golf courses on the island, most of which are edged by the ocean one side and the mountains on the other. Some of the best courses can be found at Grand Diablo Links, Deintes de Perro, Casa de Campo, Santo Domingo Country Club, Playa Dorada, and La Romana Country Club.
Baseball
Baseball is one of the favorite things to do in Dominican Republic as it is the national sport and a national obsession as well; with even the smallest communities having floodlit stadiums. The core of the country’s baseball is San Pedro de Macoris.
